I got this off the 0.99¢ rack at the used book super store because I needed to spend at least five dollars to use my credit card. My rating is absolutely skewed by the price. That being said, this is a delightful little airport book. Like, make no mistake it's an airport book, but one that you want to take home when you're done with it. It's a fun adventure about a PI going undercover with a sexy national parks agent/archeologist to bust illegal antiquities trade. There were a couple of jarring weird turns of phrase that didn't feel like they fit with a mid to late twenties early thirties PI and I wish the protagonist was more active towards the ending, but I still feel like I got a dollars worth of entertainment out of it. You can tell that the author had a good time writing it and I had a good time reading it.

I enjoyed this story. It was eventful, had quite a few twists, and enough quirks to keep it on the lighter side. “Tink” is the perfect PI and I would love to see more of her. Rose is dedicated and passionate about her job. And Cruz has the right amount of seriousness and sex appeal.

Although this was book one in a series, I haven’t found additional books and that’s too bad. It was perfect for a rainy holiday weekend.

Nice read. Plenty of heart stopping action with lots of twists and turns. Gina is put into the employ by the Parks Dept. to help keep her best friend safe. Rose is shot and hurt in a car accident and now Gina finds herself undercover in Yucatan, Mexico trying to unearth a smuggler, his partners and figure out who shot Rose, all while dealing with a partner she doesn't quite trust in Cruz. And her target who is very much "hands on" to Gina's dismay.

I wont add any spoilers to this review but be prepared to be surprised at who you can trust in this thrilling tale.

I thought it was really fun, and loved that the characters weren’t just all boring white Americans

I feel that this author had a great opportunity to break a lot of stereotypes with this story, but decided for some weird reason to pander to the common annoying stereotype of Asian women. That's my main gripe with this book. The character wasn't in reality a stereotypic Asian female and I liked that about her. However, the character decided to play a bimbo Asian woman because of a job she was hired to do. I found that unrealistic. I don't know if I will read any more of this author's books because of the memory of this insulting character and very likely not read more books by them about that character.

There was a lot to like about this series! Nearly all the characters were people of color, the main character was a kick-butt female who both showed emotions and also took no shit, the locations frolicked nicely between the US and South America, which was a treat for the mind. All in all, I'd say this was a great start to a new mystery series I will really enjoy.

Note: this was given to me by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I can honestly say it rocked.
