,,,,,,,, a whole year for that awful cliffhanger resolution,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Nov 21 2022: yeah so fun fact I wrote that down two whole years ago. Even better - a journal entry from two years ago, on November 17 2020 that just says "I have been reading KOTLC and I both deeply hate it and am fascinated by it," and a day later, "I am vaguely regretting KOTLC before #9 came out I am in PAIN over that-"

so. Cliffhanger. Don't know why I didn't expect that. I knew it was going to happen - I'm still angry though!! Shannon Messenger exactly how long do you plan on dragging this series out for? I don't think there IS much of a plan ngl.
Three stars for Glimmer and Edaline in that one pep talk heart to heart scene. Iffy about the rest of it. Glimmer is SO right btw. I really waited two years for that reveal LOLL cool though pop off Glimmer. The whole Song twins thing made me miserable but tbh it made complete sense in the worst way possible. still unhappy though! I really miss old Linh currently but idk seeing as the whole book was like really centered on how Sophie's becoming more aggressive and strong it makes sense others are changing too bc these are KIDS 16 is still YOUNG. I changed a lot in the two years between 16 and 18. Lowkey thought Ro was insufferable in this one. Uhhhhhh romance Sophie is STILL sixteen somehow. Agh. Idk what the heck even happened in this book? It was a mess and half the characters felt OOC and the other half didn't get much screen time. DEX!!! THE BEST!!! my golden retriever boy!! Things just keep happening and it's half boring me and half kinda cool but also just prolonging this series. sigh. pacing, man. I win btw I was always Foster-Keefe if I had to pick a ship (I prefer Sophie for Councillor bc who wants to deal w teenage drama - not I). tbf on that topic - I actually appreciated this book's handling of it all. She's 16; she is learning and discovering that crushes aren't forever and love is different and Edaline is supporting her!! but also I don't want to deal with it why can elves register for the match at 14 if they live forever? yikes. can't wait for more impressive Team Valiant & Friends drama! Their arguing is literally so stupid you all want power we get it. Please the book using ship names literally killed me DON'T do that. yo Wylie is the best and always will be. I missed Biana a lot tbh I see you KOTLC going for the Dexana or whatever the ship name is pop off tbh actual good ship thumbsup don't break my boy's heart again. RIP Keefe bro can't catch a break. Things really do be happening. I enjoy the whole stars thing. RIP snappers they had to endure my commentary on Enola Holmes 2 last night and then Unlocked + Stellarlune today. yo the best thing I've ever learned about this series is that Oralie & Kenric were enemies to lovers I miss Kenric. yo wait ok Fitz - I wanted to smack him hard, but also. It made sense. In a really sad way. I'm sorry, golden boy of the Vackers - I am sorry. And he was insufferable, but - but. It made sense. I'm still team Keefe though, through and through.
This book would read so, so much better if there weren't constant paragraph breaks like every other line - I have a personal grudge against that writing style because - there ARE other ways to emphasize things. It's super annoying to read for me so - yeah! forgot the Keeper books were written like that. sigh.

Okay.... the ending still has me dying, and I finished this weeks ago!

But, anyway, I thought this was a great book! There were some aspects where it got way better than the last two or three books, and one thing I didn't agree with, but it was awesome overall!

The plot was crazy. It was so well thought out and full of twists and brought everything that has been going on since Sophie arrived in the Lost Cities to a head. And then the ENDING! It changed EVERYTHING! The author says she's been building up to that moment since the beginning, and it so payed off.

The characters were pretty great. I wasn't a huge fan of Sophie learning to believe in herself and that she was strong, but those are more theme issues than character issues. Most of the relationships were done really well, and Ro had me dying of laughter from her very first scene.

The theme is really where I have some issues. And these are just my beliefs, so I don't condemn the author for putting this theme in, but I really don't agree with the "believe in yourself, you are strong" thread. I personally believe that we need Christ and without Christ we aren't enough, and we can never save ourselves, but I don't condemn the author for putting in what she believes. That was the reason for the star cutoff, and a very subjective reason.

Overall, I enjoyed this book! It was so much fun and SO gripping! I read this book in around 10 hours, and it felt so good to read so fast again! I definitely recommend this ninth book!(10+)
