Oh this book is beautiful! If you don’t like it during the first 50 pages keep going, it takes a minute but when the stories converge, it’s the most beautiful work you’ve ever read. It’s beautiful to see how God moved in their stories, how he’s still moving through them. Both today, and in the past. I cried my eyes out and some parts, and at others it had me genuinely cackling hehe. It was an amazing read and such a wonderful reminder of the faithfulness of God all the time.

I thought this was a heart warming story. It showed that you're never too old or too set in your life to make a major change and no amount of kindness is too big or small.

This was a book group selection, not my own selection. I didn't like it, I thought the style was atrocious, and ultimately I didn't believe one of the narrators (the art dealer). I thought the "modern day slave's" story was absolutely fascinating, but the rich white art dealer was too busy telling us how much better a Christian he was than anyone else. His faith did not sound sincere to me; I felt like he was constantly clubbing me over the head with it.

Please note: some of my book group felt the same way I did, but some felt it was the art dealer's love story to his deceased wife. Some thought it was touching and cried. Didn't have any emotional resonance with me, though.

The story itself is really inspiring, but at parts the language is a little too cheesy for me. There is a lot of repetition, too, and I feel like it would be a better book if they cut a lot of that out and just made it shorter. However, both of the authors have interesting stories, and I thought it was worth reading.

Really good! I really enjoyed reading this and not just because I'm from the same town as the author and Pastor Ken was my own pastor for most of my life! Beautifully written story of how God used this couple to change lives.

This is a heartwarming memoir about, as the subtitle says, "A Modern-Day Slave, an International Art Dealer, and the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together". It contains some eye-opening details about the reality of poverty and homelessness. It also shares an inspiring story of some folks who made a difference. A wholesome story that is ripe to be made into a "Christian" movie or a TV movie. I liked the dual point of view method of telling the story.
