In most romance novels you meet the couple at the beginning of the book and the story is all about them finding their way to each other before the end. In this story there are two different guys the main woman is in love with in her life and up until the very end of the epilogue I was not sure who she was going to have her happily ever after with.

God, the main female character annoyed the hell out of me. She’s so immature and avoidant of her feelings (she’s always just running away), that’s it’s painful to see her sabotage herself over and over. If she had had two honest conversations, this book would have been a short story.  Also, my least favorite tropes - miscommunication (or no communication), teenage first love, and love triangle (kinda).

Alison Rose Greenberg is a brilliant writer. She has the ability to break and rebuild my heart over and over in this book. A book hasn’t made me ugly cry in a while. The characters were so relatable, in real relationships that reflect being 35. Second chances, missed timing, young love, new love, being authentically yourself vs potentially fitting a mold of someone else.

A beautiful and devastating story about lost opportunities, wrong timing, regret, hope, changing dreams, and lost love. Didn't expect it to hit so hard but Greenberg did a great job layering the situational complexities, creating very complex characters, bringing out complex and competing emotions from the reader. Complexly bittersweet. I feel proud of the main character for her choices and authenticity and loyalty to herself. Definitely ended up sobbing near the end but feel good about the actual finale

Overall I really enjoyed this! Sweeping, years-long romances with a love triangle AND a non-chronological timeline? YES! I had a hard time putting it down. Ultimately, I was happy with the ending,
although for a lot of the book I was expecting that Maggie would come back down to earth and be with Garrett instead of Asher. But it’s cute and unexpected that they could be dreamers together, instead of settling for mundane lives with Garrett.

Maggie read a liiiittle bit like Wattpad pick-me at times, but otherwise I really liked her character arc and narration.
