First, this book is written like poetry but in the form of a romance novel. The song writing element had me itching to listen to the fictional songs being crafted. Honestly, the writing alone is why I gave this book five stars. I want to just pluck so many lines out and leave them on my heart forever.

The story and characters were surprisingly wonderful as well. The story is raw and hard in some ways, but also so incredibly unrealistic in others and while I didn’t really connect with Maggie’s life or experiences, I connected with the way she sees the world. I loved the way the story took on a lot of heavy and real topics (divorce, suicide, infertility, sexual assault, mental health) in a beautiful and candid way. There’s a sort of sad tone throughout the whole book, yet it’s ultimately a romance. Although, it’s also a book about a woman learning who she is and how she fits in the world at the same time.

I don’t think this book is for everyone, and I went back and forth between if I loved it or hated it, but ultimately I think it just really hit a chord for me today.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was great and loved the story. I do believe that certain people are mean for certain parts of your life and this book is all about that.

Love Greenberg’s writing and the Spotify playlist. Still having difficulty picking up any book, even one I liked as much as this. Think she did a beautiful job of showing these two different possibilities, but once the final reveal came into play, I was just ready to see how it all ended.
