Steph is one of the humans I didn’t feel was very fleshed out until she became more prominent in the last book. That fact along with the little I knew of Juth had my expectations pretty low for this story. What a wonderful surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I knew when Juth’s story was told it would bring to the forefront the island tribes’ discrimination in the past. They not only had to face that they were wrong in how they treated the Outcasts, but they were also cruel. The humans see this clearly and don’t back down from sharing their feelings. It’s handled in a way that is natural to the story being told so it didn’t take me out of the story. In fact, it made me respect the women for speaking up and the men for digesting what they said instead of just pushing it aside.
The relationship between Steph and Juth is sweet. I often found myself tearing up with what Juth and Pax had been through and how strong they both were. Even after being torn from his home and being an Outcast, Juth’s adopted son Jax is so cheerful and good-natured. Juth and Steph both make mistakes in their relationship, but Steph is so good about explaining things and Juth gives her space to explain.
This story shook up the dynamics on the beach yet again. It’ll be interesting to see how things will play out now that the people have been shuffled around again. Plus, this story somehow helped me to start liking O’jek but put me off of Daisy even more.

This was actually adorable. I wasn't a big fan of our hero after what happened with Raven but he redeemed himself in this book. And there's a lot of action going on! I liked that something major happened in the storyline!
A quick and easy read, I quite enjoyed myself.
It’s nice that we didn’t have to wait too long to get to the two outcasts after they were introduced like… 2 books ago. This plot point wasn’t dragged out either, wrapping up without too much unnecessary drama.
Juth and Pak are precious and deserve the world. I’m glad we have at least one queer lead! Steph being bi was a great point to add and it was handled nicely.

Okay we stan a plus size bisexual queen with a psych degree!
But my god did I want to throttle Steph and Juth during the third act conflict. And throttle Daisy and O'jek in general. Daisy's book is going to raise my blood pressure, I can just feel it.
Probably a 3.5 stars for the miscommunication, but Pak was so dang cute I'ma keep it at 4 stars.
