okay my thoughts on icebreaker after finishing it seconds ago:

- 1st - halfway through i started picturing everything in the same house or set up as the deal. then i literally couldn’t shake the feeling. enemies to lovers, she doesn’t like hockey, house full of hockey players who love her, best friend or skating partner who’s shitty to her, cooking meals for all the hockey players, hockey player having shitty dad, like it was just all so similar

- 2nd - wtf was her relationship with ryan? and why did he just like fall out of the plot completely in the second half??? there’s no way that situation would ever happen in real life. and i know that sometimes that’s the point in a romance novel but it was just too far fetched. and it was odd how she was fucking him but also wanting him to date olivia. that was just odd to me.

- 3rd - wtf was her relationship with henry?!?!? like why did it feel like they were dating? and why did she constantly make jokes about being with him if things went wrong with nathan? and why was nathan so protective over LITERALLY anyone else but him? like a man can’t look in her direction but she can tell henry she loves him and somehow that’s okay? i love nathan don’t get me wrong but fucking weird.

overall a super cute love story and i can definitely see why some people hype this up so much because the chemistry is undeniable and the spicy scenes are 10/10. but i think it was just way too similar to the deal for my liking. almost like it was too cliche. nathan is still a daddy though

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it and the amount of times I laughed I just know it’ll be one I pick up again.

I loved the relationship development between Stassi and Nate, it made for a nice change for the female to be the grump and the male to be the sunshine. And wasn’t Nate just an absolute dream! And it was really great to see Anastasia’s character grow and overcome things throughout the book.

I thought so many of the characters were great, the whole team were adorable, how protective they were of Stassi and how much sh** they gave Nate. I loved Lo as well but Henry was favourite, his brutal honesty was so funny.

Aaron though, ugh I hated him so much! And yes I did whoop when Nate punched him. I’m also slightly annoyed that they didn’t find out what Aaron was really doing.

It was a sweet read and I’m looking forward to Wildfire.

2.5 Another book that could have been way shorter. Cute premise, but annoying female lead.

I tried to stop myself but here we are

PSA:
1. no mental health professional should (nor would) ever convince you to take active steps to put yourself further/deeper into your abuser's orbit. any step that you take to distance yourself, either physically or emotionally, should be met with encouragement -- not pressure to see the other side or regress back to a situation that does you more harm
2. calorie restriction and control is one of the most insidious and dangerous kinds of physical abuse and should not be overlooked, brushed aside or minimised in favour of more outwardly and traditionally recognisable forms -- either by yourself or anyone else
2a. if this is happening in a sports setting, your captain and/or organiser should be versed in the danger of this kind of abuse and make active steps to signpost you to support services. they should not accept surface-value excuses or minimise the harm it has caused for the sake of competition targets
3. knowing psychological terms/phrases for abuse, trauma and mental health issues (commonly known as 'therapy talk') does not make you immune to them. a problem does not go away by actively recognising it as one
3a. do not ignore concerned loved ones because you think knowing the route of the problem has conquered it - just because they cannot actively name what is happening through the terminology of a psychology textbook, does not mean that their help, advice and support should be brushed aside
3b. spending a lot of your week/day in therapy does not mean that your problems have gone away. you could be in there twenty four hours a day seven days a week, and still be actively harmed
