Capt Combative meet Nosy Reader

Ahhhhhh! I have so many questions. Jay McLean clearly is in the bomb dropping mood with Combative but she hides them. She makes you squirm, wriggle, and prepare to beg for answers. The entire time you want to know more you cling; you cling to the hope of a new relationship and leave worries for tomorrow. Unfortunately, tomorrow is the wrong time to start worrying.

I am twitching for answers. Fortunately for me, I'm currently in a binge read of the series. I would have gone nuts to have to wait for ever for Redemptive especially after that tease at the end. My stomach sunk and my breath caught. This series is definitely not so simple.

I am still reeling after the ending of Combative by Jay McLean! I cannot wait to get the next book and more of this story. This is the first book of Jay McLean's Combative trilogy, and each book will continue the story of Kyler and Madison so readers should expect cliffhangers. (and there was a huge one here!) This book had me on the edge of my seat though and I really need the next one!

After returning from Afghanistan, Kyler Parker finds himself in a bar fight that lands him in jail. His detective brother Jackson (not biological) is able to offer him a deal that will help him out. The deal requires Kyler to go undercover as a fighter to help the cops bring down the leader of the fighting ring and a suspected drug ring that has ties to Kyler and Jackson's past. With both Kyler and Jackson looking for justice and few choices, Kyler agrees. Then he meets his new and mysterious neighbor Madison and things become more complicated than ever.

I really can't go into much detail here except to say that I really liked Kyler and Madison. I loved seeing them get to know one another and I thought that they were building a great connection. They had a ton of chemistry, and it was clear right away that they each were into each other. Madison is the innocent naive type, and there is so much about her that we don't know. There are a few details here that have me so curious as to what is going on with her and who she is, and I honestly can't wait to get more on her. Kyler had a horrible upbringing, and I cannot even imagine going through what he did. In that he found a brother in Jackson, and I absolutely loved that relationship! I just couldn't get enough of these characters and I really love where this series is headed.

I will say that things were a bit slow at times here, and obviously we are still far from having all the facts. There is so much left a mystery here and at times having all the questions and none of the answers got a bit frustrating. I can be impatient and there were a ton of things here that had me so curious! I need to know what the deal is with the mailboxes and everything else here! I thought that Jay McLean did a great job of grabbing the reader's attention here and giving such an interesting start to this series. This book was steamy and mysterious, and kept me guessing the whole way through. If you are expecting a typical fighter book, this is not that at all. It is so much more, and I cannot wait for Redemptive. If you like some mystery with your romance though, this is definitely one worth checking out!

Reread

I'm rereading the first 2 books in the series before book 3 comes out. Sometimes when you re-read a book after a few years you don't like it as much but that was certainly not the case with Ky. I loved the dual POV, the secrets and twists.

Combative is the first book in the series of another new to me author. The story is dark, gritty, and full of suspense and mystery. It's the story of Kyler, who just went out of deployment and were recruited to help crack a lead on a case. During those times, he met Madison, his shy and mysterious neighbor.

This is a slow burn romance as we get to know the main characters' pasts through their POVs. It was evident that both of them were trying to hide/ shield each other from their dark pasts and hurts. But it only got them more attracted and found similarities as they both slowly strip their layers. This book ends in a small cliffy and had my mind spinning and connecting the dots. Can't wait to devour the next installment!

This book was so engaging right from the start. I'm not yet swooning over Ky and Madison, just because it felt too soon, I guess. It felt like they were together so fast and they don't even know each other that much. But that's what I'm curious about now in the second installment! I want to know more about Madison and her dark secrets. The last scene with Nate was so intense! I was biting my fingers off. WHO TF IS BAILEY??? 😬

PS. I WANT MORE OF DOCTOR AROMA! 😂

5 Why did no one tell me there was a HUGE cliff hanger stars.
This book had me hooked and I was sure I had it figured out. I was also ready for it to end in its neat little packaging but ohhh no BAM blindsided. My poor poor heart.

Amazeballs!!

She did it again! I love how this book isn't just about the romance between characters. There is so much going on and it's a book that needs to be read over and over and you still always manage to come across something new that raises more questions. This book has so many more questions than answers and while some might find it discouraging or even annoying I am so in love with it! So much to think about and anticipate! Major girl crush on Jay McLean and loving every word she puts on paper!
