Wow! Adam is wonderfully fantastic! I absolutely loved his transformation throughout the first book in the series. I was super excited to read this book, because even though he is portrayed as she a black heart, when he first kept trying to get his son to acknowledge him, I knew there was a warm gentle heart in there! Gabby was the perfect mate for him, her fire and her passion was exactly what Adam needed in order to really live. I am more curious however about Darroc...and of course the fact that the Fever series clearly moves on with the story and I can't wait! :) Loved having the MacKelters in the story again, and truly hope to see more of them!

The Immortal Highlander is the sixth book in Higlander series. This book teels a story about what happened to Adam Black after his queen was angry by his actions.

Gabrielle O’Callaghan is Sidhe-seer, so she can see faeries even if they don't want her to. It's a gift that most of the women on her mom's side have, though sometimes it skipped generations, like it did with her mom. Her mom left her with her grandmother when she was seven because she couldn't deal with her curse.

Adam has been a faery for thousands of years and according to her ancestor's books one of the worst faeries. He had started to loose hope since no one could see him but then one day Gabrielle was having a bad day and couldn't hide the fact that she could see him. Adam and Gabrielle agree for a deal: she will help him as long as he keeps her safe.

It was very sweet how even in the beginning Adam got angry how her boss was treating her, especially with her past with being abounded by everyone. Her both parents left her, she lost her grandmother and then even her ex boyfriend left her, thinking she was having a nervous break down. Neither Adam or Gabrielle really wanted to be the first one to admit their feelings but they couldn't help but be jealous by other people. It was really heartbreaking when she thought that she wouldn't have the happily ever after she really wanted to have, not knowing he considered her as his. She'd come to him, accepted him.

It was great to see characters from earlier books and starting to bond with our current couple.

All in all while I wouldn't necessarily count this one as historical romance since there was no time travel or even flashbacks to the past-- I really enjoyed it. I had hard time putting it down and I don't think anything really annoyed me. I liked how this book was about acceptance and it was nice to see Gabrielle going from believing everything she was taught to making her own opinions about faeries, and Adam.

I liked how Adam Black, despite having been a scoundrel, a liar, and a devil in previous books, redeems himself (and even becomes a "man" of worth) in The Immortal Highlander. However, as I read further, I found myself often asking, "What makes his love interest more special than all of the women he's bedded in his six thousand years?" I came to the end of the book and still didn't get it. Why he chose HER over any other is still a bit of a puzzle. I mean, in six thousand years, only two mortal women have ever denied him? And that made them all the more alluring to him? Eh.

And SPOILER ALERT: Adam trades in his immortality for a humaN life with her AND suddenly grows a soul (where Tuatha De have none)? With no explanation as to why? Uh, okay, Ms. Moning. *shrugs*

That said, I really enjoy Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series as a whole, and the book was an enjoyable read overall, but this story in particular didn't move me as much.

3 stars.
