An easy to read gay romance with its main distinction being it includes a trans man as one of the main couple.

Incredibly cute, slight toxic masculinity.

I wasn't sure about this story at first, because Derrick was SUCH an asshole and I have very limited patience with his type of bullshit toxic masculinity. But I am really glad I kept going, because for once I thought the redemption arc was well done. Derrick actually has to work for forgiveness and the happily-ever-after (
SpoilerI really really loved that Ginsberg didn't immediately let him off the hook and resume their relationship just because of one "big gesture"
).

I enjoyed it but wish there'd been more than one sex scene

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Audiobook Review:

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

Derrick is miserable, he never wanted to take over his parents’ B&B, but falls into it after he was laid off and his parents’ passed away. He has never been very comfortable in his skin, even if he won’t admit it to others. Ginsberg is perfectly comfortable with himself and has worked hard to be the man he is today and isn’t going to change that for anyone.

This story was told from both characters’ points of view, which made understanding their thoughts a bit easier. It’s easy to see Derrick struggling with keeping up and being what he thinks a man should be even if sometimes you just want to give him a slap across the back of the head for being an idiot. Ginsberg looks at the world as the glass is half full and is slowly able to show Derrick that everything isn’t as bad as he thinks. Derrick takes awhile to get with the program, but once he does he is all in.

Dorian Bane and Tobias Silversmith did a nice job narrating this story. I could connect with the characters through the voices and emotions they portrayed. This is the first time I have listened to a story with separate narrators for the two main characters, I can’t say that it either helped or hurt the story, it was just different and I still enjoyed listening to them.

Cover art by LC Chase is nice and follows the pattern for the series.

I really liked the first 75% of the book, but I am very conflicted on the big "conflict" and who is portrayed as being right.

I liked this story alot. Kaje Harper's review pretty much covers it all for me.
I liked that Derrick was socially awkward and the more inept in life of the two men, despite his being a 'manly' lumberjack.
Ginsburg was just so out there, in your face, good, decent guy. I did wonder how thick his skin really was considering all he'd been through but a long term relationship would give him security to be truly who he is.
I liked that Derrick did come to love the B&B in the end!

Meh. This was okay, I guess, but Derrick's characterization was all over the place. Sometimes he was the nicest and most tender and affirming dude, and then he'd have an internalized homophobia/femmephobia meltdown. Belleau handles that kind of progression with considerably more grace in the Rear Entrance Video series - I was surprised to see that this was actually published more recently.

This was a really nice, light contemporary romance. I read this because one of the main characters is trans. I've enjoyed books by both of these authors before and this, too, was very enjoyable. It was easy and quick and entertaining and just nice. It's great to see a cool trans main character in such a straightforward romance.
