I didn't get far with this. By page 70 I had lost patience with the world building not being explained - I had no idea really what was going on - and also with the main characters behaving like 14 year olds despite being adults. Too many temper tantrums and too little explanation of the world itself.

I tried this book because it seemed on the longer side but not extremely slow. I adored the characters - complex, messy, loving, and emotional to fault. The relationship between the main characters is so human and raw. I'm not sure what keeps it from being a true 5 star book for me, but it's very close.

Every single character sucked and I got bogged down in the metaphorical, philosophical descriptions (I don't like philosophy). That being said, I was invested in what happened between Ahilya and Iravan. I'm glad I read this book.

I think I liked it but it was too much for me honestly
