Wow what an epic expansion of the Avatar universe. In the foreword is said that it's really hard to write a prequel because there are all these things have to fit in perfectly. I think F.C. Yee did just that. And it's still an amazing brand new story. You think you know Kyoshi but you do not know how she became this badass warrior.

It's LGBTQ+ btw so that really cool ❤️

If you liked Six of Crows, I think you will also like this. Whether or not you are familiar with the Avatar universe

There is no knowledge of the Avatar universe needed but I think things like turtle ducks are much more fun to read about when you know how cute they are.

If you watched Avatar (the Last Airbender) and you like reading this should be on your TBR!

(Why not 5 stars? The beginning was really slow, I get why but it was kinda boring. And I don't know if there was really something that will stay with me from book)

The first time I read this (years ago) I didn't like it very much. Upon re-reading it as an audiobook, in preparation of running the Avatar Legends RPG, I actually really enjoyed it. The same issues I struggled with the first time still stood: the pacing was off and it often felt like things were added to solve/create a problem without any prior foreshadowing (once again looking at you, pacing). But I also found that I liked the characters a lot, and the fleshing out of the world we already know so much about from two shows.

And, I mean, you know... Rangi is in it.
