Pacing was a little off but started to pick up towards the end of the book. Overall it was a pretty fun read.

A great fantasy world filled with surprises! The stakes are high, the tension sizzles, and the politics are complex enough to keep you guessing. Looking forward to reading book 2!

There's a point where you go from "is this reylo fic" to "oh yea this was definitely reylo fic" that took me out for a little bit. Mostly because I hate reylo. But all things considered, it was good and I did end up enjoying it.

If I’m editing the book as I read it… we’ve got a problem. A promising world, lackluster writing (very “tell not see”) and characters that just fell flat. A classic case of a pick me mc protected only by plot armor. The romance was lacking chemistry as well. Over all, will not be continuing the series.

It’s good. The pacing is a bit off. The beginning goes to fast and the middle too slow, but overall I really enjoyed the story. The next book will be an interesting read too.

This was a fun start! The pacing was very odd in the first half, I feel like we didn't get to the real inciting event till way later than I expected. But I enjoyed the character dynamics of the second half, and the world-building was pretty interesting. I don't think I've ever really seen a magic system like this one before. It ended kind of abruptly which I wasn't a huge fan of. It's a coherent plot, but I feel like things just happened without as much interstitial content as it could've had. I will be reading the next one very soon though!
