I don't remember when I first read this book, it was back some time in high school and I've re-read two times since. This novel is just incredible and still one of my favourite things Chuck Palahniuk has ever written.

THE REMIX: So Chuck is my favorite author, and Invisible Monsters is my favorite if all his books. The Remix was so much fun to read, and I think it was really just a love letter to his fans. This “director’s cut” version fulfilled Chuck’s original intention, and not only includes all that dark and grimy underbelly of society we know and expect for Palahniuk books, but also a few fun extras you have to work for. I love this book and thought the Remix was such a fun way to revisit it.

"Now," those Plumbago lips say, "You are going to tell me your story like you just did. Write it all down. Tell that story over and over. Tell me your sad-assed story all night." That Brandy queen points a long bony finger at me. "When you understand," Brandy says, "that what you're telling is just a story. It isn't happening anymore. When you realize the story you're telling is just words, when you can just crumble it up and throw your past in the trashcan," Brandy says, "then we'll figure out who you're going to be.”

One of the most fucked-up books I have EVER EVER enjoyed.

I'm not normally a huge fan of Palahniuk, but this book just drew me in. I wasn't even sure I liked it until I was done. But it toys with the ideas of self-image taken to an extreme.

I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, but if you've stomached Chuck's books before, you should be fine.

*********

I hadn't read this for several years, and read it again in October. Apparently I had totally forgotten how the book ends so it was just as much of a twist as the first time I read it. I was glad that this held up to a second reading, and it's still the only Palahniuk book that I've really enjoyed.

Wildly inappropriate and I recommend it to no one. That said, it was quite a ride and unlike anything I’ve ever read. Can’t wait to discuss at book club.
