This felt rushed, confusing, and the main character was not believable as a strong character who would take the lead in negotiations between countries while also folding at the slightest pushback in life. Multiple cases of narrative whiplash while reading.

There was a lot of potential here. The political tangle Thanh finds herself in was intriguingly set-up, and Giang's character was so interesting and I wanted so much more of her. But Thanh and Giang's relationship dynamic and the whole resolution seemed rushed and simplistic and underdeveloped. Thanh spends a lot of time reflecting on everything going wrong and it isn't well-balanced with any action or character/relationship development on her part and Giang ended up feeling like a quirky fun insert rather than a dynamic character who is particularly necessary to the plot.
