I thought this book was extremely well-written but still very easy to read. I loved how there were details that popped up in each generation and made the stories feel more seamless. I thought this was a perfect book to read for Black History Month.

Unconventionally told in a refreshing way—this book is not a page longer than it needs to be, despite being a three-generation epic. I DID want more, but I know better than to ask. I hope Stringfellow writes more fiction!

Heavy. Powerful.

I left this book wanting to cry - in happiness, in sorrow, in grief, in hope - none, both, all of the above.

Ms Stringfellow's prose is artfully composed. The words flow like a poem - or maybe even music. And the stories woven within are like a time machine, taking me - to Memphis, to the Civil Rights movement, to 9/11, and beyond, and before, and everything in between.

I picked up and put down this story a few times, not lacking for quality, but because I was not ready to handle the story being told.
