Good portraits of a wide variety of women, important in different walks of life, with a gentle but strong thesis.

Interesting book and enjoyable read. Started out fascinating but by the end I didn’t love her choices of women to feature. It was a good way to learn more about British history, but it could have done without the condescending attitudes and cutting feminist remarks.

A good selection but including so many entries means each person only gets a fairly brief description, and a lot of it feels like lists of biographical facts rather than interweaving commentary.

What an absolute bore. While it definitely contained facts I guess I was expecting something more insightful or heartfelt. This book has an audience it just wasn't for me.
