I think I liked this even more the second time around!
Cute, well-written book about upper-middle-class (mostly) white malaise. Two couples are falling apart in sort of whimsical ways. There's nothing about this book that stands out spectacularly, and most of their "problems" made me roll my eyes, but it's a nice, well-written book that's enjoyable.

this was v. heavy on 'a visit from the goon squad.' real readable, though i wish i'd read it at the beach.
Modern Lovers was not a difficult read, not an unpleasant read, but it was just okay. I don't think I have the natural capacity to enjoy this novel as much as others, mostly because it centers on a very particular population of people, people I've spent my entire life as a born-and-raised Brooklyn girl feeling apart from and resentful of. Moreover, I found each character their own special brand of obnoxious, which I am still not sure Straub intended to be genuine or tongue-in-cheek. Lastly, when you read about a place that you know by heart, reading loses a bit of it's magic, so there is that.
Consumed in audio: This book is about two families (1 lesb. & 1 straight) who used to be friends with this celebrity in college who died and they’re making a movie about her but throughout this, the families are going through their own navigating of relationships and love. The different types of love and what not. The story ends pretty cute I guess.
