Funny, smart, and a little twisty. An interesting look at what happens 20 years into marriage, when you realize you're not married to the person you thought you were -- and that you're not the person you wanted to be.

Teen and later loves between two families. A gentle novel with a relaxed pace. Ending felt like the need to neatly conclude every element as neatly as possible.

I just couldn’t find my rhythm with these characters

This was a fun summer read that highlighted how the ups and downs of life create complications that add spice to the journey.

I definitely loved this book. Light, easy to read, engaging... a perfect summer novel. Also talks about Oberlin a lot, for which I'm nostalgic. Normal people having normal problems and figuring out life. Delightful!

Long live Emma Straub.

I love novels like MODERN LOVERS-- smart, well written narratives focusing on relationships. Straub's work is fun to read and I enjoyed this novel more than THE VACATIONERS. A great summer read.

Apparently I had previously read The Vacationers and gave it 3 stars, which is probably how Modern Lovers ended up on my to-read list. I skimmed the description of The Vacationers before I started reading this one, and I have no recollection of having read it.

And that is probably what will happen with Modern Lovers in a few months. It wasn't bad but I have a feeling it won't stick with me. The characters were realistic but not memorable; the plot was fine but not amazing. This is the definition of a 3-star book. It's fine. Probably good as a beach read but I doubt it will change your life.

love me some drama!!! Uffff yesss

The themes are relatable but the facts are extraordinary. Interesting looking at all the situations from each different perspective and voice.
