Never would have expected to enjoy this book. The anatomical differences freaked me out just like Serena. Also like Serena love grows through time and action. Szaro is sweet, kind and fearsome.

This series is like a comforting cup of tea in a warm, slightly breezy garden gazebo covered in blooming wisteria. As usual, a cozy but spicy romance featuring kind, good, honorable people who marry suddenly (usually because of some mishap) and do their best to make their lives together work. Oh, and this one has a sexy snake man with a vibrating bumpy dick. How could I resist?

I’ll start by admitting that I adore this author’s writing. Additionally, I love the concept of this series - functionally humanoid monster romance - so I was predisposed to like this story. HOWEVER, the biggest selling point with this story was actually the personality of the male lead, Szaro. His willingness to roll with fate and to genuinely be thrilled with the blessing of an out-of-species mate was gorgeous. His gentleness and perseverance and willingness to adapt was also beautiful.

The female lead, Serena, struggled somewhat more to adapt but she was also adapting to bigger changes, including literally changing planets. The fact that the life Szaro was offering her aligned with her personal life goals and dreams prior to him, plus him, made the relationship development engaging.

The story is dual POV, well written and edited, a great addition to monster romance, and a steamy hot and fun read. I received a complimentary copy from the author but this is my honest voluntary review.

This is so good. I was worried after the first book that the idea of this series would get formulaic. Then I was more worried when the blurb for this book seemed nothing like the first book of the series. I am happy to report that neither of these fears came to fruition. The set-up and plot for this book are very different from the first, but the book maintains the same wholesome and adventurous vibes that I have adored reading.

Serena's warrior spirit is strong and back-up by her badass skills that might not quite match the skills of her husband's warrior people but are greatly respected by them. I also majorly appreciate that all of her husband's people respect her as a warrior despite none of the Naga-type females pursuing that career path. Purely from a feminist standpoint, I further loved that what she learns from her husband is not further violence or ruthless efficiency in battle, but a deep sense of caretaking (not just protectiveness which Serena exhibits from the start) for the native species of her new planet.

This is a great couple, on a genuinely unique planet, with both a believable relationship and reasonably growing pains for their situation. They were truly a pleasure to read. I would say that the sex is secondary to the romance in this book, but the sex is damn creative and incredibly hot (despite the snake-type body form there is just one penis, no hemipenes, but there are very interesting blunted spikes).
