As much as I love monster romances and was hoping I would love this, it just felt kind of... Bleh. Not because of the Naga or anything, but because of the main character.
The main character is the quintessential Mary Sue. Everyone immediately likes her and goes out of their way to help her and make sure she's happy. Not a single person has any hesitation about a human living among them when they're not used to other species. The only people who don't like her immediately are quickly won over and end up loving her just like everyone else. Any potential conflicts are resolved by her having some genius idea or revelation that saves the day--not that there's much conflict to begin with. I'm not expecting much in a romance novel but there's no real climax to the story at all and the plot feels thin at best and it ends up just feeling really unsatisfying by the end.

I really enjoy the romance in these books. The hero is a real cinnamon roll, and the heroine is an honorable and capable hunter. But even if some elements stay the same, this book was very different from the first one, in the best ways. Where the first book was all about the heroine being the savior for the alien population, here it feels more like she found her purpose with them. She bonds with Szaros over the love of the land and being its protectors, there's true respect and understanding between them.
Also, I'm a sucker for freaky alien bodies and genitals, and this book got plenty 🌶️
There's something about the alien population that rubs me the wrong way. Male Ondrosians are hunters and the females are nurturers, no exception. There are very structured gender roles, which are in their nature, in their genes. Serena very much embodies the trope "not like other girls" in that sense. She's the only female they know who knows how to hunt and likes it. From what I remember, hunters were also only male aliens in the other book. I hope this is not a pattern that will be repeated in the other books, it will get old very quickly.

There wasn't much depth to the relationship and I never got invested in the characters' happiness.
