This was my fifth time reading Big Magic! I think the audiobook version might be my favorite. Liz Gilbert gives off some seriously comforting & reassuring successful-big-sister-giving-advice vibes that always make me feel quite inspired.

This book does an excellent job at tearing apart a lot of common myths and fears that surround creativity. Gilbert uses anecdotes to encourage anyone looking to be more creative to remember the following:
• You don't have to be good at art to make it.
• Humans are innately creative.
• You're never too old to begin a creative pursuit.
• Fear will gladly run your life for you, don't give into it.
• Art doesn't have to be perfect to be shared with others.

One caveat: if you're at all weirded out by the idea of the creative process as a spiritual experience then do not read this book!

Inspiring pep talk on creative mindset applying to all sorts of creative endeavors (writing, art, and other forms of making); including attracting inspiration, following your curiosity, overcoming fear, giving yourself permission to express yourself, getting the work done in all its beautiful imperfection, and putting it out there without worrying about the outcome. A bit woo-woo for me in parts but overall very invigorating and applicable to all sorts of creative things in my life. Elizabeth Gilbert has an approachable, readable style and this book feels just like she is talking to you. She is clearly familiar enough with creative blocks, impostor syndrome, and fear to write about it intimately yet she is bracing and direct in her message. A great read if you're trying to work up the courage to make your thing.

Whether you consider yourself a 'creative' or not, I recommend this book to anyone looking to figure out how to find inspiration, tackle fear and live more authentically. The short chapters are almost like little essays, so you can read in short bursts if you like.

I highly recommend the audiobook as Liz Gilbert narrates it with such great emotion and humor.
