This book is part of the Orca Soundings collection, which has dozens of short, high-interest, low-reading-level, fiction titles. Although the plot has an interesting enough premise, it is, of course, constrained by its less than 90-page length and lower vocabulary level. This would be a good recommendation for teens who just want something quick and fun to read, or anyone who is working on improving reading skills but needs something more interesting than early reader material can provide.

This is my favourite Orca Soundings book. But, like the other Orca books, I wish it were longer.

This was a pretty short book. It does a great job of giving a glimpse of what bad decisions will cost you and how it affects those around you. It also does a decent job of showing why it’s important to be careful about the people we call friends.
