This book was a little too slow and serious for me, but the imagery was beautiful and I loved the idea of these characters.

5 Do you fear the dark stars!!!

That cover though... do you really need to know more about the book besides the cover? Okay about the book, a world where a witch creates siren tree daughters, there is a soul eater, and a wonderful young man named Owen just trying to survive with his family.

Owen was a delight as a character, he was so hopeful throughout the whole book. His family was so close and loving it was completely opposite of Seren that he couldn't quite understand why she couldn't stand up to her mom. While he did have to harden quite a bit towards the end of the book he still had quite a big heart towards everyone in the book, no matter what they had previously done to him. Owen seemed to be able to befriend even the most unlikely person. Seren on the other hand while very unpredictable in the beginning was probably my favorite character. She had a lot more to unpack character wise. She really has to believe in herself otherwise she may not overcome what has to be done. I adored her meetings with Owen all of them really because it was like she was always learning something new. Don't get me wrong this book isn't all romance and fancy there is bloodshed and war, and political plots going on. It's a lot in a small package and I loved every minute of it.
