This was definitely not what I was expecting it to be. I did really love the fact that it fell into dark fairytale territory, but the romance completely smothered this book. I wouldn't have minded the romance element had it just been one of the many layers of the story, but it overtakes the everything and makes it the main focus causing all the interesting bits to be covered up.

This is a dark fairytale about a monster in the wood, but the monster wants to have a heart. A bit gristly, a lot of emotion, and wonderfully painted characters. Read this if you're in the mood for a fairytale vibe that mostly takes place in a haunted wood.

It’s The Little Mermaid (but with woods instead of water) and all I can do is picture the MMC making out with Grandmother Willow.

This was such a beautiful, dark, whimsical fantasy romance.
The book was so atmospheric and written beautifully.
The plot wasn’t exactly fast paced but I thought it was perfect for this book.
I thought the whole tree siren thing was really interesting and well done. I’ve never read a book with those creatures in them and now I find them really fascinating.
My favourite part of this book was the characters, specifically Owen and Serene.
Owen was such a cinnamon role, and normally I love the alpha loves interests but he absolutely stole my heart. He was so sweet, kind and gentle. Just the definition of a soft boy.
Serene was such a fascinating creature. I loved her development throughout the book. She was so selfless and just genuinely wanted to do the right thing. She may have done monstrous things at some points but I never considered her a monster, she just wanted to be free and make her own choices. She was a great character.
These two had the sweetest, most cutest romance ever. The way they came to understand each other and love and care for each other was just adorable and so emotional.
In saying how sweet the characters and the relationship is, this book is actually really dark at some points which I was not expecting but still really enjoyed.
I was also not expecting to cry but of course I did.
I definitely want to read more books from this author!
