I really enjoyed this book - it had engaging characters, especially Frances, the way she was written really made her come to life. Great plot and well written. I'll be looking out for book 2!

When Percival Garton dies a horrific death after taking medicine from the Doughty pharmacy, Frances's father is accused of making an error while mixing the medicine, despite her father's assistants insistence that no error was made.

Frances sets out to clear her father's name, as the stigma of being a careless chemist has all but ruined the family business. Things become more complex and entwined as Frances digs deep into Mr. Garton's past and that of his best friend, James Keane. Along the way, Frances learns that people are seldom who the say they are.

1880 London, and Percival Garton has received his bottle of medicine from William Doughty's chemist shop. Unfortunatley, Garton soon dies and from strychnine poisoning, a substance in his medicine. To clear her father's name Frances Doughty decides she has no choice but to investiage the death.
I enjoyed this book, for the mystery and the characters, and look forward to reading the next.
