This is the first book in the love by numbers series, I have read a couple of the other books which I thought were great but to read the book that started the series was a real treat! Jake and Emma are worlds apart, he comes from a successful family and she comes from a struggling family but one night brings them together and changes their lives dramatically. It is great how we get to know both of them prior to them really meeting each other and good golly talk about an emotional roller coaster of a ride as soon as they get together until the end of the book, be fare warned you want tissues handy, maybe a full bottle of wine and some chocolates for reading and the aftermath when you finish! Oh and it does end on a cliffy however the second book is available so its ok!!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I had to forcefully pace myself while reading this book. The author wrote such a captivating story that I was dying to get to the end but I didn't want the story to end and for now... it doesn't, for there is a cliffy. I had a lot of strong emotions in this book. I, for awhile, truly disliked Jake and honestly did not see any redeeming qualities to him. But, of course that all change and soon I began to love him. Emma on the other-hand I liked from the start. She was a quirky and a little more mature than I'd expect a girl in her late-teens early 20's to be.
I enjoyed this author writing style, and the easy way her story flowed.

Twenty One, here I come...

The story in this book is good. It is cute and has these adorable awkward moments. The way the author spaced the timeline was well done also. What bothers me, and ultimately made me rate this so slow, is the two POVs. The two POVs where unnecessary when the chapters were the same scenario just from a different view. While I do like to see how characters react to the same event it should start off where the last chapter left. The way she did it, it would start with Jake’s POV then the next chapter would be Emma but instead of starting where we left with Jake we start at the same place that we started for Jake. This broke up the flow and the story and was confusing for a bit. I preferred Jake’s POV the most and ultimately dreaded Emma’s because of this fact. The story could all be from Jake’s POV besides the couple chapters of Emma’s that are unique from Jake’s (if you read the story you will know which chapters these are). Or even vice versa. There is just a better way to do the different POVs. The ending, though, is quite a shock and you will be wanting to read the next one because of it. Or be left completely unsatisfied.

If ever a book packs stuff in. This is the book.

It seemed to me like the author thought, I will chuck in - workplace romance, wannabe filmstar, girl attacked, hero who saves her, childhood tragedy, travel romance, throw in some parental issues, hospital scenes, amnesia, sexy brothers and a cliff hanger and it would work. Like a kid in a sweet shop who wants it all.

And strangely it did sort of work.

Emma was quirky and funny, until life got in the way. Character inconsistency explained by life events. I do love her My Little Pony knickers.

Jake was a manwhore and I didn't actually warm to him until the final chapter.

Still, enough interest to make me read more.

I liked this book. It was not my favorite by far but it was a pretty good read. Jake and Emma are the main characters in this book. They meet at a nightclub owned by Jake's brother Nate and there is instant chemistry, but something horrible happens to Emma that night and Jake blames himself so it pushes them apart even though they're both insanely attracted to each other. For months there is no contact between them and then they meet again and although a rocky start there are instant Sparks and they both know this is where there heart lies.
What I didn't like about this book is that each chapter alternates between the two. That was fine but each chapter literally repeats what was said in the previous one. Like if Jake was talking the next chapter would be Emma and she would say the exact same thing Jake had just said. It was annoying and got old. I felt like I was rereading half of the book. Don't even get me started on the ending! Jake disappears the end! WHAT?! I'm all about sequels but man that was abrupt!
All in all it was an ok book but not one I would lose sleep over.

I tried okay, I really really did! Considering I'm not a romance reader, I tried extra hard to finish this but I can't...

Even after
Spoilerbrutal sexual assault on Emma, I steeled myself and kept going, thinking maybe it will turn around but while she was recovering in hospital, Jake goes around and sleeps with 'attractive miss Mocha'??
Is this supposed to be a 'love' story? But as I said, I am really ignorant on such predicaments, so...

I am out of here...

Second time reading and this story still pulled me in.
Showing ones feelings comes hard for Jake, he wears his womaniser mask well, but you can’t help be swept along in his spell and cheer him on as he confronts his deep attachment to Emma. I really loved Emma. The quiet girl, who likes to blend into the background, I found her inner strength and determination, appealing.

Jake and Emma are just meant to be, although circumstances and deep feelings keep them apart for so long. Their chemistry is breathtaking and will keep you hooked until the very end! And what an ending! Yep it’s a cliffy, but do not despair, Twenty One, the follow on book is ready and waiting for you to dive straight into.

"Who can ever feel unloved or lonely when there's a whole world of undiscovered journeys to take, hidden in the pages of a book or in the chords of a song?"

How true are those words? Yes for me! Emma and Jake are two of the most unlikely characters to cross paths. Jake is a bad boy rising star. Emma is just trying to find out if she's able to become the woman that she needs to be. So, here I stop. Why? Because you just need to read the story. If you follow my reviews and like what I like, trust me, this is well worth the reading time. But, this is one of those stories that you need to experience for yourself. Because...

She ends it in a BIG ol' cliffhanger.

But never fear. ES Carter has Twenty One all ready for you to pick up where you leave off here. This was a first time read for me of this author. The recommendation came from a reading group. I was definitely NOT disappointed. It hit all the right notes. Moved at an engrossing pace. I want more of Emma and Jake. So off to Twenty One.
