It was hard trudging through the first 3/4 of this book. I’m true Maas fashion though, once it kicked off it gave me whiplash. 3 stars because it shouldn’t take so long to get to the point.

I’ve picked this up to read about 4 times since I bought it around 2 years ago, and every time I put it back down again after only a handful of chapters. I found the concept of modern day fantasy SJM style a bit uninteresting having read both of her other series - but this time I decided to power through! It ended up gripping me more at about page 250 and enjoyed the character development, as to begin with I found the main character boring and annoying (I think that was kind of the point?). Good overall, but didn’t love it as much as her other books! However, I will say this series is written much much better than ACOTAR and early TOG now that SJM is quite a seasoned fantasy author, but didn’t like this story as much as those series.

Oh my goodness. The last 100ish pages made of for the slow 400first pages! And the twist and turns, the who done it reveled at the end! And that epilogue…

Finished this 800 page behemoth in about 4 days. Cried at the end. Seems to deserve 5 stars
