You wouldn't think that the CW - a network composed largely, if not entirely, of twentysomething former underwear models pretending to be average teenagers embroiled in highly dramatic relationships - could do a better job with a story than the original author. So hats off to you, CW, because you have spun some serious straw into gold with "The 100".

Compared to the show, the book is kiddie stuff. I just watched an episode where a major character mercy-kills another major character to save them from being tortured to death - and that's not even the most awful moment of the season. Meanwhile, the worst thing that happens in the book is... someone burns the camp down and Bellamy can't find Octavia. Oh no! Heavens forbid! But who has time for plot when we could be watching love triangles pile up and girls waffle over whether or not they can be in love with a particular boy? Plus, the story wastes a lot of time in space with Glass (not on the show, wisely) when all the interesting stuff should be happening on the ground. Emphasis on "should be", by the way; I understand that a book series can't rush to the good stuff, and I'm assuming later books feature the Grounders and perhaps some, I dunno, ACTION... but I'm not going to read those later books, because this one was dull as dishwater.

Bottom line: the characterizations are flat, the pace is sluggish, there are zero stakes, and the marvelous premise is completely wasted. Skip the book and watch the show - they know what they're doing.

I must be honest, I was disappointed throughout reading this book.
I started watching the TV show and i absolutely loved the story. When I decided to read the book, I was aware that there would be things that didn't happen in the show and I could live with that. Beside the fact that te characters are completely different, I was disappointed by the writing. The storyline and the characters are very simple, they are not interesting ing enough. Therefore I will not be reading the other books and I will stay with the TV show.

I love the world building but the storyline is definitely lacking.

A story about 100 incredibly disregulated teenagers from a neocapitalist space colony who are sent to Earth to see if it's safe after a mass-death event. The main character, Clarke, has a love interest named Wells, who: purposefully commits a crime in order to be sent to Earth with Clarke in order to "watch over her,"; does this after effectively sentencing her parents to death and herself to exile; expedites this Earth voyage by intentionally sabotaging an airlock on the ship which puts into motion the 2nd mass-death event the human race will experience /just/ so that he can have her sent to Earth instead of being executed; and somehow after doing all of this, feels incredibly entitled to and jealous of her attention. This book doesn't really send a great message to young readers who are learning about how to court someone they like.

3 1/2 stars.

This is another one that was partially ruined by watching the show first. The books were good, don't get me wrong. It's just compared to the TV show there wasn't near as much action. I like that there are certain characters in the book, that somehow got cut from the show. I guess their story line wasn't enough for the show, but it's like I am getting something a little extra by reading about them in the book.

I will continue with books two and three in the future!

I honestly don’t know why I give this four instead of five stars but somehow five stars doesn’t feel right.

I loved this book. The pace. The characters. The setting.

Absolutely in love with Bellamy and would absolutely die for Glass‘s relationship :,)

You have two different settings here that are separate from each other but both are really catchy and interesting.

In total there are Four pov‘s all from really different characters.
All of them trying to survive and help their beloved ones.

Honestly I’m too tired to go to much into detail but this book was a great start of a promising series and I can’t wait to keep reading. :)
