It would have been a great book, should it explain things more clearly. I thought this book would be like the books that are written by Jung Chang, comprehensive and the story just flows like water. This book however is just like ordinary history book, but the language is much more simple. Not disappointing, but it didn't fit my expectation also. All in all, if you like history, this is quite a nice book to read.

This is not a book that should be rated. This is something that everyone should read once if they can handle the subject matter.

Such a difficult read, so many tragic events to have happened to the Chinese people outlined in this book. I struggled through certain sections and needed to reflect many times. Iris Chang's writing style was compelling, easy to work through and insightful. One of those books that will stay with me for ages.
