4.5 - I enjoyed it more than your average four star book but it really didn't hit me emotionally enough to give it five stars. Five star books always make me cry and wake up with a book hangover and I don't feel like I'm going to get that from this book.
Okay, so the important thing to keep in mind when reading this book is that IT GETS BETTER. Not that it isn't good to begin with but it's one of those books where you start reading it and think, okay, this book could go either way. I personally was very sceptical of the book and for the first 100 or so pages was still in the 'I'm not really sure what to think' mindframe, however, shortly after that the drama really starts to kick in and you see the importance of the double time frame as you're really able to look between the lines and see what is happening on the other side, even when Addie's not there to tell you.
For me, the double time frame structure of the book really concerned me and I wasn't confused by it, I knew what was happening in each parallel universe without getting it mixed up with the other, but I found it annoying and tiring to read. However, once they begin to overlap you can really get a sense of where things are going and it got a lot more enjoyable for me.
I thought both story lines were interesting, there wasn't one I preferred over the other as they both kept me suspended for more, which certainly in this book is extremely important as if I had preferred one over the other I probably would have skimmed the other story to get back to the first and therefore would have really missed out on some of the key plot points. The idea behind this book is wonderfully creative and I congratulate West on having the patients to practically write two books at the same time and entwine them together so seamlessly.
Duke and Trevor. Wow. I have to admit that I was totally rooting for Duke towards the beginning of this book. I was hoping that he would be incredibly romantic and be the epitome of a bad boy reformed, mostly because Trevor came across as a little uninterested and distant and I really couldn't warm to him. BUT WHEN I DID WARM TO HIM HOLY HELL SOMEONE LET ME AT THAT BOY. Needless to say, Trevor really stole my heart.
BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAKE US BACK TO TREVOR PLEASE PLEASE I JUST CANNOT.

Duke and Trevor. Wow. I have to admit

However, I found that with Addie's realisation of Dukes actualy powers that I, as a reader, had fallen for them to. And that, I think, is incredible. When Addie felt the love, I felt the love. When Duke turned it off to test Addie's feelings for him I felt the uneasiness and the suspicion with Addie and that really made me sit up and take note that, hey, this book isn't half bad.BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAKE US BACK TO TREVOR PLEASE PLEASE I JUST CANNOT.
Great book. LOVED the concept. Got a bit annoying sliding from one future to another, seemed like I was reading two different stories. Though I understand this is my fault. Didn't finsihed it because my friend spoiled it for me, but also my fault because I asked her to spoil it for me. Hahaha. I might continue this series. The best friend sounds more interesting though.
A re-read that reminded me of all the things I loved about it! Romance and friendship and family and angst and superpowers- amazing!
YES. Made me laugh, my legs wobbly and my heart pumping like never before. Never thought something like this - paranormal meets contemporary - could be such an AMAZING match. You go, Kasie!
the little, little minus: please, her ability is called Divergent? I've maybe heard of something like that before *sigh*
this was a 3.5 star book, but made it a 4 because it had soooooo much potential to be a FUCKING 5 STAR BOOK (which doesn't happen very often for me)
It was SO close to reaching its potential but didn't even scrape perfection.
My first and foremost issue with the book was how it was written...its not that I have a PROBLEM with the chapters alternating the two futures, I had a PROBLEM with the fact that the book doesn't DISCERN the two future chapters. you will be confused when suddenly out.of.nowhere. she's with her dad in Texas and then suddenly with her mom at the compound...it took me a WHILE to get used to it
anyways...
I've always loved the idea of a school with psychic/supernatural students *cough* X-Men *cough* and the author did a good job with making discrete names for each of the abilities (besides the traditional ones) like...
Discerner = person can tell lies/truth
Eraser = person can erase memories
Persuasive = person who is...persuasive -_-
Clairvoyant = we know this one
...and I LOVED that each of these abilities could expand and develop with more abilities (for ex. replacing memories as well as erasing them), but that was also a downfall. the author didn't go TOO MUCH into it...it was one of the more interesting aspects of the book and could have made the book so much better but nuuuuuuuuuuuu
MAJOR PROBLEM: when a book has aspects that are more interesting than the romance WORK ON THE INTRIGUING STUFF INSTEAD OF THE ROMANCE...or just lengthen the novel because I understand you're writing two books in one

Pivot Point is one of the most original stories I’ve read lately. I thought it was very creative how the author gave Addie the power to see two different paths based on a single decision and how each path had consequences.
Pivot Point has parallel storylines going on and the world building in both stories was done exceptionally well. In one plot, Addie leaves her supernatural compound to join the normal world. I preferred this world for several reasons and one of them was the fish out of water experiences Addie goes through by attending a regular high school with normal students.
Another reason I liked this path was the love interest for Addie named Trevor. Oh my, he had me swooning! He’s an artist and his interactions with Addie were adorable. I could tell from the beginning I would like him much more than her parallel world boyfriend Duke. In this path, Addie remains at the compound and continues going to high school with other students with supernatural abilities.
Based on what Addie sees in her visions, she’s forced to pick a path and my heart was breaking over how tough the decision turned out to be. The end was satisfying, but it certainly left room for a sequel. Yay! More Trevor!
This was a great YA book with a surprising amount of depth. It really made me think about all the possibilities that could come from one small decision.

Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book for review!

I would recommend this book for ages thirteen and up.
This is a book that follows a girl named Addie Coleman, who goes to a school for kids with paranormal abilities. Addie is a searcher. If a searcher is given a choice, they can simply look into the future and see the outcome of both decisions, then make their choice depending on which of the two outcomes they prefer. 3.5
¡Me gustó bastante!
aHORA NECESITO EL SEGUNDO LIBRO ahr
