Fantastic plot! There were a few holes or ideas that I felt could have been more thoroughly explored; that said, interwoven plots are difficult and this one was marvelously constructed. The ending shocked me, which is always a plus, and I read straight through it in one go. Definitely worth a recommendation!

What happened to this book? It was not supposed to be like this, so boring and plain. It was supposed to be an epic journey of what ifs, a choice dilemma, a difficult situation with profound feelings attached to it. I was supposed to go crazy about this book. But at the end, the book turned out superficial and so focused on the romance that did not even feel like a romance because it was lacking the tension, the passion and the chemistry any romance should have.
This book is an example of how you take a very promising blurb and turned it into a disaster just by murdering every interesting thing that it can offer.
The characters lack any characterization or emotional weight. They are either nice or not. They have no layers whatsoever.
The plot moves so slowly I was ready to stop reading on multiple occasions but I talked myself out of it because I was hoping it will get better. I hoped wrong.

SHHHHHH WHY DO MY OTPS ALWAYS END UP LIKE THIS just adheoidhcsildjfcij I think my heart couldn't handle any more Trevor cuteness cause darn it he's so adorable and I disliked Duke the second he spoke like he was just too smooth and manipulative and i didn't like the way Addie was when she was with him so the ending made sense AND CAN AUTHORS STOP ERASING THE LOVE OF THEIR LIVES OKAY I had to endure Liam at the end of TDM so this is was horrible but AT LEAST THERE IS A SECOND BOOK because now they fall in love AGAIN :D I'm so ready for it!!! :') And uggghhh this time it better be real!!!!!!!!! OFF TO READ BOOK 2 NOWWWWW

This book was just what I needed right now. I've been in a reading slump so I've not been finishing books but this I got through in two very sucked in reading sessions. If I hadn't needed to do something this morning then I'd have stayed up all night to read it.

This was just such a great book and I loved Trevor and Rowan. Laila too most of the time and I was drawn into all their drama. It's right that this doesn't feel like your typical sci-fi book but it wasn't too contemporary either. You simply get drawn into the characters teenage drama just as easily as the serious stuff which is good.

It took me a while to actually get and read this book. I hope it won't take me so long to get book 2.

3.5 stars!

- I hate Duke, he sucks. That is all
- I loved how the two timelines intertwined to give us the full story. Very original :)

I have been meaning to read a book by Kasie West for a long time now, and after reading and hearing such glowing reviews of Pivot Point, I knew it was the book of hers that I had to start with. I had a feeling that it was going to be good, but I had no idea that I would become sucked into the story so quickly! Kasie West has made a terrific first impression on me, and I can’t wait to get my hands on her other novels. If you haven’t read Pivot Point yet {let’s work on that!}, you can add my review to an always growing list of reasons to read it NOW.

Addie lives in a world called the Compound, where a group of people with a range of mental superpowers, such as detecting liars and controlling emotions, live. Addie’s power? She has the ability to “search” the different paths she can take when faced with a decision. Her ability may sound useful, but when she has to choose between her parents, it’s anything but. After her mom and dad announce their divorce, Addie can choose to stay in the Compound with her mother or venture into the world of “Normals,” or regular humans, with her father. Complicated story? Yes. Hard to follow? Not at all. Kasie West manages to not only keep readers engaged, but also prevent any confusion that could arise out of such a layered and complex story. Despite the number of details, the plot never felt too heavy; if anything, I would describe it as a light and a fun read. I think it shows a lot of West as an author to write a story that shows both creativity and focus.

One of the best aspects of Pivot Point was the setting. Although one half of the story is set in “our” world, it felt entirely different viewing it from Addie’s perspective. Even better was reading the story set in the Compound. Although very similar to the regular world, it is the subtle differences about the Compound that truly develops both settings. I love how football is a common element weaved throughout the two possible worlds Addie could choose; attending a game and supporting your school seems like such a simple high school “ritual” that the story came off all the more believable. I honestly can’t ask of anything else of a fantasy novel.

I couldn’t end this review without mentioning the love triangle {however unusual it may be}. I thought that the author pulled it off perfectly, with just enough charm and secrecy from both Trevor and Brandon to keep the reader guessing. If I had trouble throughout most of the book picking a favorite, I can’t imagine living with Addie’s ability! :) On a similar note, while she wasn’t perfect {and really who is?}, I appreciated the friendship between Laila and Addie. I hope to see it further developed in the sequel, and speaking from the synopsis, it looks like it is.

Overall, I’m disappointed in myself for pushing Pivot Point off for so long! It is an incredibly fun and addicting read, and although not my usual taste, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I have high expectations for Split Second, which was immediately added to my birthday wish list – fingers crossed it’s coming to my bookshelf soon!

What would you do if you thought about the future and could see how it would play out? Addison Coleman, or Addie can do exactly that. She once almost went out with a classmate and saw that it wouldn’t end well for her and didn’t go out with him. Of course not everything is that easy. Addie’s parents tell her one day that they are getting a divorce. Divorce between ‘normal’ parents are hard enough, but with parents who live in a paranomal compound? And one parent wants to leave? This becomes extremely difficult for Addie.

So Addie, and her best friend, decide to have Addie ‘search’ and to see what she should do. Should she live with her father in the ‘norm’ world? Should she live with her mother in the ‘para’ world? A six week search shows Addie that no matter what side she chooses there are pros and cons.

In one universe she is dating the hottest guy on the football team, and on the other side she is dating the boy next door who everyone loves and adores. For most of this book I was very pro boy love interest, and although I was a leaning a little more towards one boy I would have been happy and content with either boy. That being said, when a pivotal moment occurred in the book, I became very glad I was leaning towards the ‘good’ love interest.

I. love. this. book.

No really, I do. I finished reading my ARC of this book at about two am and then went straight to my indie online and bought it. I couldn’t put this book down and I didn’t want to. I was excited how the two universes overlapped in sometimes the smallest ways, but often the biggest ways, too. And although I wish Kasie West would have went more into certain aspects of the world, West’s writing and imagery made it so that I wanted this book to never end even with the few ‘flaws’ I felt that it had.. I just wanted it to go on and on. Thankfully this is going to be a series, so it will be going on! I really can’t wait to see what West has coming out next.
