Tough to get into at first, this book reads like a thrilling movie. Absolutely a great read. Can't wait to get into Life Debt
You know what? It wasn't bad. It was pretty entertaining actually. Mostly new characters with some returning characters from the movies (the usual suspects, some briefly). It wasn't nearly as great as the "Heir to the Empire" series that took place after Jedi, but still, I did enjoy it.
This book is a steaming pile of crap. I'm happy there is LGBT content but literally everything else in this book is awful. Every paragraph seems to have ridiculous analogies. Oh and the lowest point is the fight between to bounty hunters that had gone on for days. It's just terrible. Awful.
The audiobook narrating was very well done by Marc Thompson who is most people's fav SW narrator. If only he had a good story to read.

Just because we CAN make more Star Wars, doesn't mean we SHOULD. I listened to the audiobook and I appreciated the special audio effects, the story was just ok. I felt that there were too many characters, and I did not like the interludes. Not my fav SW story, but for those geeks who like lots of detail and backstory regardless of the character, this may be for you
the writing is not good. i got used to it though. The story was interesting for the most part, though the characterizations were off at times. The interludes offer interesting clues about the new canon, though we'll have to see how it plays out before knowing just how relevant they are.
A middling Star Wars book that does little to deliver on its premise of presenting the 'journey' to the Force awakens. Although interesting and small scale and full of expanded-universe style nods and vignettes it is a hard book to like and a dull one to read at times.
Unlike the "Legends" series of books, this book gives a much more detailed look at the Aftermath of the war against the Empire. Republic building is hard and not the cake walk that The Truce at Bakura or The X-Wing Series from the "Legends" timeline implied. The Galaxy here is more complex and imaginative. However, despite all of this improvement, the story lacked big-name familiar characters and I found it difficult to care about the new characters introduced. Also, ironically considering how much this book expanded upon the Universe, the stories focused on are so sideline, that I found myself wanting more about the bigger picture, rahter than the focus on this microcosm. We get Ackbar and Wedge and a smattering of others, and I suppose that is probably to make room for more movies or TV shows to expand on the mainline stories so as to maintain continuity, but this book's narrow focus left it lacking. Also, for my taste, there are still tooamu holes and questions about the gap between Episodes VI and VII, maybe the trilogy will fix that, but I'm not optimistic. Lastly, I am continually surprised that despite scrapping the "Legends" series so much of it seems to come back intact- maybe the goal was to keep a lot of it the same and just smooth things over, but I almost would prefer a completely fresh start, rather than this piecemeal of the old with the new.
wow! There was quite a bit of stuff going on during this period falling the fall of the second Death Star, and I really enjoyed this part of the story following it. We have some new characters to hourly file in some further adventures, as well as being with a few we have known for years. Wendig has done a great job! It's listed as "Aftermath #1" so maybe a couple more stories will follow this one!
I thought this was a fun Star Wars story, which helped to show what was happening around the galaxy after the fall of the empire. Getting a glimpse at the outer rim was great, and not having to follow all the main characters of the movies was refreshing. They can't be everywhere at once, after all. We do get several side character perspectives, which is plenty for me. I've always enjoyed Star Wars books that focus on new characters and planets.
I've seen a lot of flak about Wendig's writing style. I have to say, I really didn't notice it. The story was enough fun to cover anything distracting. I look forward to reading the other two in this series!
