This just isn't up to par with anything. It gets two stars because it's in a universe I love, but past that it's not worth your time.

We follow the events following the defeat of the second Death Star. Most people assume, that the Empire has been defeated and the New Republic now rules the galaxy, but the Empire are hanging on by their nails to anything they can. And the New Republic has many holes in it's new government, leaving many planets alone in the disaster of war. We follow a boy who was abandoned by his mother so she could go fight for the Rebel Alliance, who is struggling with the fact that she has returned from war and wants to "save" him by taking him away from his home. We follow a former Imperial who is struggling with the trauma of the battle at the second Death Star, the horrible things he did in the name of the Empire, and what that all means for him going forward. We follow a captain of the New Republic who stumbles on an Imperial Blockade on a planet in the middle of nowhere and the Imperial Admiral who captures him.
A ton going on in this book. I liked some of the characters, hated some of the others. I really liked the former Imperial's POV and I didn't mind the kid either. I think the mom is a horrible person and the bounty hunter was pretty annoying at times. Like the mom cared more about the captured captain than she did her own son.
I think all the crazy names and events and timelines are super confusing at the beginning. They do tie up pretty nicely by the end, so that was satisfying. A generally enjoyable book, it just didn't blow me away. Though I'm excited to see what the next couple of books bring. Not super excited to follow Han Solo's story.
Again, I fucking HATE the sound effects the play in the background of the audio books!! Like someone would get punched and they'd play like a cartoon sound of a punch, so fucking distracting and dumb and annoying. BOOOOO!!

The plot of this book was OK, but the writing was pretty brutal... At times it seemed like adjective bingo with too many winks and nods at what came before....
I haven't read any other Star Wars books in the past, so I have no idea how this compares, but I'm not going to be rushing out to read any more in the future.

Wasn’t interesting like previous Star Wars novels were for me.
Fun read
I haven't read a Star Wars book since the first movie translation book. I tried reading another back then and I lost interest. I this story, I did not lose interest. It was a fun read with a lot of interesting and diverse characters. It was a real pleasure and I can't wait for the sequel later this year!
