I dunno—I just kinda loved this. Fast becoming my favourite author in this genre … Or maybe I should say one of the only authors in this genre I like at all.
My favourite thing about her writing is how natural, real, and charming her dialogue is. Or maybe it’s just that the characters and their humour are so much like mine and my friends’. I actually laughed out loud at one point and I almost never laugh out loud at books, even witty books I love. Not that it was a hilarious kinda book, but the one part was just so bang on. And funny.
Anyway, it was a silly, light little story line, one that probably wouldn’t have held my attention if not for the charm of the writing. A bit of an unrealistic/naïve ending, but still satisfying and the right fictional ending for these fictional characters.
Just the perfect fun read. Can’t wait for her next book.

The central mystery was a delightful caper, but the story dragged in the final third

This book had so many things I love and some that were all too relatable: a strong female lead, deep and cherished girl friendships, grief and the offensive and grueling process of dealing with someone’s estate (duck decoys?), learning nuggets about a loved one only after they’ve passed (a secret lover?), intrigue, modern love story… and it was set in Maine. So it really had the makings of a great novel. It sucked me in, and I’d recommend it as a great beach read. But despite great individual elements, when pulled together it felt a little forced, and even a bit flat. Kinda hokey both in story arc and writing, so I’m docking it a few stars.

One thing I love about Linda Holmes's books is that they're romance novels that don't treat romance as the only important type of relationship. #RELATIONSHIPANARCHY!!!

This one had a fantastic plot, some good laughs, and embraced a non-traditional romance structure. Loved it.
