Family is more than blood.
Throughout the story, that was the running theme. You can't choose who you are born to but you can choose your family. I felt so bad for Saoirse. Her home life left little to be desired! Her mother was awful! And then her father, well he wasn't better. I did like him at first because I genuinely believe he did somewhat love her. He at least kept her fed and clothed. It's hard to describe her relationship with her father. Yes, he's a criminal and had her making things for him, but he was better than her mother. She could have fallen into the trap of her parents if it wasn't for Diarmund.
He saved her in so many ways. As a kid, he was there for her, and she had someone she could talk to. Though, that relationship started going to be inappropriate. That made me uncomfortable. But I will give it to the author for her writing. I still finished it. I still wanted to keep reading, even if I felt that the relationship was wrong. I tried to ignore the age difference after the met again years later. Diarmund really helped her with keeping her on the right path. Im so glad her father went to jail. I shudder to think where she would be if her father hadn't been arrested. She deserved more. And in the end, she got more.
What ruined this book for me, besides the ick feeling with Saoirse and Diarmund's relationship in the beginning, was the soap opera drama with Ava. I don't honestly see why Diarmund didn't leave her earlier 😑 the drama with her father, and the drugs should have been it. Ava shouldn't have played a part because she wasn't around. Don't know why he just didn't divorce after she "lost" the baby. Would have saved a lot of unnecessary crap.

All the freaking feels!!!
I can't even count how many times my heart went *blob* throughout this book.
I love the different POVs. I love the "realness" - no relationship is always easy. This is so real, so deep, so imperfect.
I didn't love the back and forth for a short while, going back in time then present day, but it really does help the story in the best way.
I'm mad for the main male character and what crap he was put through! You really get to know the characters in this story, and get to love them all.
I wasn't sure if I'd read all of the other books in this "series", as they're stand alones technically, but with how well we got to see the goofy friends already, how can I not??
Highly recommend! Love love love this couple!!!

DNF AT 80%
Well written, great use of conflict. External and internal. Characters well developed. Just found the underage aspect to jarring. If the characters had come back together 5-10 years older, I would have found it easier to read.

Too much time is spent with her being 14, he comes off as predatory af.even when she’s 17 it’s
Just weird idk. And the Pacing is terrible. It’s no reason this book needed to be this long.

DNF, the age gap is just not for me. Not when she’s underage—I just got uncomfortable reading this
