like some other reviewers here, i don't think i had the time or brain space to give this the dedicated study and reflection it deserved. it was challenging, lyrical, and i'm sure very rewarding for those who can really sink into it.

Idk if I can actually rate this - I much preferred Anne Anlin Cheng’s essay on this (ha ha) - beautiful in theory, challenging in concept, but definitely on purpose? I really didn’t wanna say i was too stupid to read this, but I think it’s also been a while since I read something so experimental. Still, I loved the semi-biography and disembodied photos.

Reread when older. Do you understand more? Is that the point?

super hard to give a star rating to this book. If I could it would be a high one; there are so many layers to this text that are initially confusing but hold so much weight and value once you dive into its history and Cha's background. I'd definitely recommend reading analysis alongside the piece, as its many elements are intentionally ambiguously narrated and deal with shared history, identity, mothering, movement, and a plethora of other things.
