4.2 AVERAGE

Finally read it because Mark told me he'd go see the movie without me and I would really be mad to have the ending ruined. Pretty good stuff.

This is my favorite book of all time. I typically don't enjoy books with boy characters as much as I enjoy those with feminine leads, but Ender did change my mind. I found the surprising and eventful plot-line combined with a deep dive into the intellect of the characters to be outstanding. They don't occur that often (in the first book at least) but there are some random religious sentiments that mostly have to do with reproduction. Read at least this first book if you want the adventure of a lifetime!

Warning: if you continue to read the series the author's religious perspectives on marriage and reproduction get way more frequent and start to majorly influence the plot (to my eternal dismay because I don't agree and otherwise I CANNOT stop reading).

Didn’t like the prose

I really thought I'd like this a lot more than I did. It had a great beginning and I thought the Peter/Valentine parts were engaging but, given their ages, pretty far fetched. I did sympathize with Ender, but grew weary of just about every facet of the Battle School, from the peer strategics, to all the endless games. [That he was a little kid throughout made it hard to suspend disbelief, but then I had the same problem with A Clockwork Orange.] Eh, ...I don't think this book was meant for me.
