I first watched the movie thanks to Anna. I then became obsessed with a free pdf I found online. The storyline with his siblings had me hooked beyond belief (in late elementary school/middle school). Watching the movie really helped with visualizing the novel.
This is just delicious. The ending had me in tears. I was in a bit of a reading slump (if you couldn't tell, I've only been reading manhwas recently), but I devoured this. I already have Ender's Shadow checked out, which I haven't ever read, so I'm really looking forward to it. It's unfortunate that I was so obsessed with this as a kid that I was never able to forget the plot points from start to finish (unlike any other book I've read as a kid except maybe Harry Potter).
Honestly my experience this time was closer to a 4.75, but I have to rate it a 5 due to its legacy in my memories. It was nice to hear the author's note at the end in the author's voice. I don't recall if it was included in whatever pdf I was reading way back when, but I had a sense of deja vu.

I originally found this book in a charity shop and I had never heard of it before. Now it is one of my favourite books, I cannot recommend it enough! After reading Ender's Game, I realised that I really love Sci-fi and I will definitely be searching for similar books.
Side note, I really loved the anti-grav war training scenes.

Graphic: War
Moderate: Child death, Physical abuse, Violence
Minor: Cursing, Death, Domestic abuse, Genocide, Racism, Blood, Injury/Injury detail
3.5 stars, good but I love the movie better.
I watched the movie few days ago. At first I was not really intrigued because, you know, young kids in 'war' theme? With the THG phenomenon, I was wary. But apparently the book itself published way before THG and that fact alone made me watch the movie. It's good, the plot twist is unpredictable and I liked how vulnerable Ender's look yet at the same time strong. Though there parts that a bit frustrating and plain boring, overall good movie and I look forward for the sequel.
But how about the book?
I picked this book right after I finished the movie but I haven't read it until today. Ender's in the movie and Ender's in my head while reading the book is different. In the movie he was all gloom but stood tall. Ender's from the book? A bit mouthy, kind of rude (especially with some of his remarks) and too mucj for his age. I don't know why.
Not that I hate it, but I think it's because I'm used with female author style of writing that's why reading this book, the feel is different. This book's writing is strong.
Overall, even though I want to know what happen next, I'm still not sure I want to read the sequel. But the movie sequel? Definitely.

Brilliant in its simplicity. Sharp, focused story. Just enough character development to keep things moving. Loads of engaging action, but never repetitious. A fun quick read.
