So good and yes everyone deserves monuments
and no one else gets to decide that especially not old cis het white men.

Do not read this one if you don’t want major plot twist spoiled
oh my gosh mama letty killed jades mom. Jades mom did not deserve that. Pick any of her other relatives and I’d be fine with it but Amelia did not deserve that. And Ray should have lived but that’s police violence for you. Also I hate Talulah and jades dad was only able to marry her because Amelia died

I really enjoyed the cast of characters, and the relationships/conversations between them felt real. As a queer person who is estranged from bio family, the way some of the family issues were worked through rubbed me the wrong way.

Loved the book for the most part, but felt like the ending was really abrupt considering the slow pacing of most of it.

A beautiful, black, queer coming-of-age story set in a small town including quite some family mysteries. I read through the night and loved (almost) all of the characters.

This book was beautiful. It's such a great story about generational trauma and healing. It'll probably be in my top favorites of the year.
