I read this book as sort of an experiment to see if I would like darker romance. It was just not for me a further solidified where my boundaries are when it comes to dark romances. No rating since this is more of a “it’s me not the book” sort of ordeal.

*Read the trigger warnings in this book* It is dark. This was the first book I've read by this author and I read it in a DAY. I could NOT put this book down. It was dark, twisted, steeeamy Hades / Persephone retelling. Queen Hades just captivated me. Tan wrote her character flawlessly and just gripping. This story flows so smoothly it's like the silk that Hades wears. It's almost visceral - the way Tan builds the underworld and Hades' domain. There is so much depth in this author's writing. If you like dark romance, this needs to be added to your TBR immediately. I'm still lost in the effects of this book

Definitely not for everybody. This book has a lot to say about abusive parent/child relationships, the impact and isolation of trauma, and very hot lesbian sex.
I wish there had been a little bit more world building and plot, but overall a very solid read.
