Beautiful writing. Enjoyed their story a lot.
The non/con moments made me kringe sometimes, but this is a dark romance, so duh.
It would be cool to also have Hades POV. Her dialog was just

Forever haunted by the fact that I will never know *exactly* what Hades wanted to do to Persephone after she flogged her.
Regardless of how accurate it was to the myth, and despite my above comment, the dubcon/noncon was a struggle for me. However, though my experience with dark romance is limited, I still found the book enjoyable. Will be trying another dark romance in the future ✨

This is a dark lesbian retelling of hades and Persephone. The writing is fantastic, there is a content warning on the first page. Please read it before reading the book.

the writing is surprisingly lovely. i like that it's a hades x persephone retelling set in the greek myth world.

The dark wife is strongly recommended for anyone who enjoys this idea but dislikes some of the other premises.
I was so excited for this book because I thought it would be like the dark wife but more adult (graphically sexual, bdsm, adult relationship struggles, smutty and feverish basically) as opposed to fairytale-esque like the dark wife. But I was so saddened and left with skin crawling when I read the excerpt that was released prior to official book release. It wasn't what I thought it would be at all :/ there was nothing I could personally get into about Persephone being *so* against what hades was doing, aka it being rape.
I will refrain from giving a star rating as I want to support the author's writing career and other queer authors and a low rating may be harsh when this is not where my reading interests lie. I do however think that this is pushing the boundaries of the extremely vast majority of readers, even those are have similar fantasies.
I think what creates such a substantial gap is many readers feel similar in that dubious consent is still in the end consent (for what I prefer anyway). Like a captive has sex with their captor by the captor ordering them to their bed but the captive genuinely secretly wants to have sex with their captor and the captor is rough and cold as like *a show* LOL
