The Killing Code

I really wanted to love this because I loved None Shall Sleep but this missed the mark for me. I love a good who done it but this was just very elementary & I know who the killer was from like the first murder.

Too much was going on at once in this book and I felt like the subplots either deserved more attention or should’ve been thrown out.

It was almost too easy a read. You can pick out the killer from the very first chapters, and there’s really not a lot of sleuthing or hunting for clues. They talk a lot about doing it, but there’s only about three instances where they search and discover new info, and even then it doesn’t really lead to them discovering who the killer is (SPOILERS: they do eventually, but that’s because he’s literally about to kill them).

This was an excellent YA historical fiction murder mystery set during WWII, a group of young code breakers band together to help track down a serial killer hunting young women. I loved the diverse representation in this book, the queer romance story line, the strong young women code breakers. It was full of rich historical detail and amazing suspense. Overall it was just a really entertaining listen that worked perfectly for me. Highly recommended for fans of The rose code and great on audio narrated by Natalie Naudus and Kelsey Navarro (two of my fav narrators!).

What a ride! I truly enjoyed everything about this story. The relationships were so lovely in the face of the horrifying crimes. And I loved the ending. ❤️
