The Killing Code had big shoes to fill after None Shall Sleep, and while it was good, it wasn't as *great.* Still Marney flexes her skill for writing suspenseful serial killer YA reads. This one has a historical fiction component, which was interesting. Set during WWII, there is someone killing government girls in Virgina. Together, three codebreakers: Kit, Moya, and Violet set out to figure out who is responsible and stop him. Mixed in is a little bit of romance, which felt a little rushed but made sense within the context of the story. Overall, this was a solid YA read that could be great for students who enjoyed A Good Girl's Guide to Murder or One of Us is Lying.

I read this book faster than I've read most books in the past year. Maybe because of winter break, but more likely because it was just that good. The book was well-researched and thrilling to read. It also did a great job of balancing the plot-driven and character-driven aspects, with significant character development that occurred naturally within the plot. Altogether I loved the book and I look forward to reading more from this author.
