Maybe I'm experiencing burn out with depressed Russians and trains, but by the end I was ready for Yuri and Lara's fates.
Bookclub pick, but I don't want to. I couldn't care less about Russian history. And honestly - although it's a meme by now - what's up with the billion irrelevant characters?

Great image of Russia in the early days of communism. It is amazingly shown how lives of ordinary people changed because of the revolution. Very thought-provoking

I've always loved the 1965 movie but had never gotten around to reading the book. Its so much more intricate and I loved how the characters touch each other's lives (in most cases unbeknownst to each other) throughout the book. It reminded me a bit of war and Peace in that it switches from family life and the military/societal life. I found it far less romantic than the film but also infinitely more interesting. This is the first book I've actually been interested in reading different translations to see how the story changes. I wonder how hard learning Russian would be?
