This volume was a bit of a lull for me. As it happens with any series! Dips and heights can happen over time.

I did love the last third of this volume a lot. Leonardo’s fight to end things peacefully was so painful with the outcome he was forced into. Seeing grief and upset in both Leo and Mikey is helping hone in that they are all more than just ninjas who fight. They are impacted by everything they endure.

Shredder is so?? Hm. His thought processes leave me a bit confused as to how he reaches his conclusions, but it seems he is motivated by what would hurt Hamato Yoshi (aka Splinter) the most. And that seems to be trying to get his eldest son to betray him.

Credit where credit is due, they certainly found a way to make a very goofy origin story about turtle men into a hokey but somehow slightly more credible story about turtle men.

I enjoyed this and am continuing to enjoy the run, cool to see more of the Turtles origins and the links to Hamato Yoshi, Tang Shen and Oroku Saki. I guess I am buzzing off this - enjoying watching the Nickolodeon series with my son and fondly remembering the comics, games and TV shows from my youth. Not loving it but sticking with this.

Gets four, but because the story was good. Unfortunately the art was... Well pretty terrible. It was hard to get to it st first, but once you kinda focus more on the words and less on the art of wasn't too bad. Maybe a 3.5 but we'll for with 4

The best volume of the run so far includes both a great scene with Raphael and Splinter about managing anger, and also a scene of the turtles playing Twister. Nicely balanced, well written, and the art has grown on me.
