Can not believe how well this held up. I loved it even more than I use too.
Overall book was ok. A lot of predicable moments and pretty slow throughout, but picked up well at the end.

Graphic: Animal death, Fire/Fire injury
Minor: Violence, Injury/Injury detail
Animal death: throughout the story animals die in a circle of life way however ***SPOILER*** the hawk trouble dies at the end of the story ****end spoiler ****
Fire injury: in the beginning of the story Merlin burns a local boy severly and this trauma is brought up throughout the book.
Injury: a tree person looses a limb. It is non graphic and only briefly mentioned.
Violence: general hero quest violence associated with running from goblins fighting the king etc.
I tried to get into this, but it just didn't work. Not the best Arthurian lit out there for young adults, that's for sure.

A very well-paced, interesting YA read for fans of Merlin/the Arthurian tales.
Definitely not as good as my childhood memories of this series. The prose is illustrative enough but not particularly poetic, nor is it poignant. The author kind of beat any chance he had at poignancy and subtlety in the last couple chapters of the book - he was practically shouting and pointing at the very obvious cues he'd strewn earlier in the book, and more than once I pictured him elbowing me with a "see? Did you see what I did there??" I almost felt like a kid being led through the story by an obnoxious tour guide who wouldn't let me enjoy the scenery by myself.
At any rate, I'm not sure if I'll continue re-reading this series. My need to finish things is making my masochism battle with my thirst for a good story.
