I just love everything revolving around Merlin. Books, shows, movies, he is just one of my favorite mythological characters ever. So that means I loved this book for even just being about him! It was also a great story line and very entertaining. 4 stars!!! Shelves: Adventure (what story about Merlin doesn't feature an adventure?), didn't see that coming (I was surprised frequently throughout this book), fantasy (Merlin!! I think that is pretty self-explanatory), Old-timey (Middle ages, always an interesting topic), People-with-power (Merlin, most powerful wizard of all time, enough said). Great book!

it had a slower beginning than I remembered as a child but the story itself is quite unlike any other and I was glad to revisit it
Not so much bad as 'I made it 50% in and the plot still hadn't started, and I honestly didn't think I could take another two hours of that writing style.'

Recommended by my eight-year-old son. Not my thing, but he was very pleased that I read it!
Very well told, action packed, and complex story with wonderful characters. Definitely reading the next book
I'm not especially knowledgeable about which age groups books are appropriate for. I would consider this an ideal book for 6th grader or above. As an adult reader (who enjoys teen fiction and fantasy), I enjoyed this book immensely. It is a story of Merlin before he was an adult, and imagines what his upbringing and discovering his abilities would be like. It had a plot that moved along well, and nice lessons to learn. I will be continuing in the series. I would describe it this way: if you enjoyed Harry Potter series, and are looking for something else to read that is similar, this would be it.
I love TA Barron! And this series! And Merlin! Well, actually, I like Rhia better... and Shim... and Trouble... and this list would go on and on...
