This book single handily scarred 9 year old me and kept me away from every water source within a 50ft radius for YEARS. One of my favorite books ever, I reread it CONSTANTLY. I’m actually on my second copy because I read my first so often it fell to pieces

Despite the occasionally annoying Texan colloquialisms I liked the book. Left enough unresolved/untold to make me want to read the next book.

I picked up this series thinking I'd be getting a quick fluff mystery series with a quirky twist (being the main character is a witch who owns a vintage clothes store) - all right up my alley. What I got instead was a much more somber story with not near as much fluff and humor as I expected. Which I was completely fine with - just as a warning to those who are looking for silly mystery reads. Great character, great story, loved the whole thing. I'm looking forward to reading more of the series!

This is going to be a good series. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I like the fact that Lily owns a used clothing store that isn't just any old clothes but vintage ones from the 1890s-1980s. She's a pretty powerful witch too. It's a good thing because a child is abducted by a demon and she has to save her.

A nice cozy read. Easy and a little silly and dark in places.

I listened to the audio version of this book. I enjoyed the story (with the La Llorona legend) and setting. But I struggled a bit with the characters. I suspect this has to do with the narrative choices made by the audio book reader. I have enjoyed her voice on other books, but here, the words sounded morose when my mind wanted them to be more sprightly. There's enough to this series that I want to give the author another chance, but I will read not listen to the next book so I can better hear the author's voice.
