The overall plot and the very end results were interesting, but the pacing was weird and the audiobook insufferably self-indulgent in its audio production/effects, though the voice actors were mostly good. Too many twists, not enough breadcrumbs, and oddly slow at plot peak points.

Look, I don’t give out 5 stars easily. I think if I read the book I would have given it 4.5 stars but I listened to the audiobook and all I’m saying is IF YOU CONSIDER READING THIS, LISTEN TO THE AUDIOBOOK BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST AUDIOBOOK EVER. It’s so incredibly well done I can’t even explain. Everyone who was involved, you all deserve an award for this.

Did a combo of physical & audio.

While celebrating her 45th birthday, podcaster Alix Summers meets Josie Fair—an eerie stranger who shares her birthday & soon expresses interest in being featured on Alix’s show. Intrigued but uneasy, Alix begins recording Josie’s story, only to find herself drawn into a web of secrets. When Josie vanishes, Alix discovers she’s become the focus of a chilling true crime narrative—with her life & family in grave danger.

I thought this was going to end up being a solid 4/4.5 read for me. But I think it just dragged on for longer than it needed to - to the point where I wasn't as hooked as I thought I'd be by the end. I thought this would be a 'slow start, strong finish' kind of book - the build up was slow, then I got hooked, and then I sensed myself losing interest again. It's full of twists and really messed up subject matter, so it's definitely a dark one. I also don't think I was entirely satisfied with the ending either. Really phenomenal and suspenseful writing, though, and the audiobook is divine.
